Geraint Elfyn Jones - Principal
Geraint Jones is the principal of the practice, having qualified in December of 1977 following articles with two firms in Cardiff.In 1979 he moved to Mid Wales to practice dealing with criminal and civil litigation, moving to Shrewsbury in 1988 to become a partner with a Shrewsbury firm and Head of their civil litigation practice. This involved litigation throughout England and Wales, and occasionally overseas. He became an accredited member of the Law Society Personal Injury Panel and later a committee member of the Accident Line Committee.
In 1994 he returned to Mid Wales taking over a Llandrindod Wells practice and his old practice at Newtown and set about expanding the criminal department in particular.
Geraint was elected Chairman of the area Duty Solicitor Committee and is currently chairman of the regional Duty Solicitor Committee.
After an extensive period of practice in the Magistrates Courts throughout Mid Wales Geraint became a solicitor/advocate with higher rights (criminal).
Cases involved murder/ manslaughter cases as well as white collar crime and large scale fraud.
Geraint holds accreditation as a trained mediator.
Current Workload includes criminal employment as well as supervision of Wills, Inheritance Tax and Probate departments.
Llyr ap Dafydd – Associate Solicitor, Newtown
Llyr studied for his Law Degree at Aberystwyth University and subsequently attended the College of Law in Chester.
Llyr commenced his training contract with Geraint Jones & Co in 1996, qualifying in 1998, and has remained with the firm since that time.
Llyr is a Police Station Accredited Representative and regularly attends Police Station to represent clients.
Llyr’s main area of practice is Family Law and Personal Injury work. Llyr is a member of Resolution and the Wales Family Law Association.
Llyr is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Richard John Page – Associate Solicitor, Llandrindod Wells
Richard is one of the associate Solicitors in this firm, dealing mainly with matrimonial and family law matters although he also can deal with criminal matters and miscellaneous matters including debt matters, neighbour dispute.Richard qualified as a Solicitor in 1976, and has held a Practising Certificate since that time. Prior to joining the firm, Richard was in Local Government serving with the Gwynedd County Council until 1986, the former old style Powys County Council until 1996 and the Powys Unitary Authority from 1996 to 2002. During that time, he was Prosecution Solicitor for Trading Standards and other functions of the Local Authority, and was also Senior Child Care Solicitor for Powys County Council (Unitary Authority) 1996 to 2002.
Richard qualified as a Local Authority Member of the specialist Law Society Childrens Panel in 2001, and has since re-accredited to a Family Member in respect of his private practice work. On 12 December 2008 Richard was re-accredited until 31 May 2003 as an Adult Representative on the Children Panel of the Law Society and as such is able to deal with private law matters between parents and also public law matters where Care Proceedings are instituted by a Social Services Authority.
Richard has been a Solicitor since December 1976 and has considerable experience in field of law as indicated above. He holds the degree of LLB from University College of Wales Aberystwyth (1970), Bachelor of Arts (1st Class Honours) (1983), and also holds a Certificate of Management and Administration obtained from the University of the West of England in 1997.
Valerie Evans – Office Manager, Llandrindod Wells
Originally from Welshpool, Val has lived in the area of Llandrindod Wells for over 35 years.Val has been an executive member of staff of the Firm since 1994 and has been managing the conveyancing team at the Llandrindod Wells firm as well as dealing with general practice management of the Office.
Val deals with all aspects of conveyancing work, including; commercial, residential, auction, tenders, adverse possession and all other related matters under the supervision of the Principal, Mr Jones.
During her time heading the conveyancing department, Val has forged strong links within Powys and Radnorshire, and has professional connections with valuers and agents alike.
Phil Sherrard – Associate Solicitor
Phil Sherrard has been with the firm since 2003. His work is mainly at the police station and the criminal courts, and is a qualified duty solicitor. He works from both the Llandrindod Wells and Newtown offices. He also represents employees and employers at employment tribunals and does general advocacy at County Court and other tribunals as necessary. He has acquired a huge experience of human nature in all its manifestations in his life so far, and has a keen interest in current affairs and civil liberties.Owain Jones – Associate Solicitor, Llandrindod Wells
Owain is a specialist in criminal law and appears regularly at Police Stations, Magistrates Court and Crown Court defending and prosecuting on all types of cases, some of which have been high profile in nature.
Owain Jones began his training contract with Geraint Jones & Co in 2006 and qualified in 2008. He has gained experience in residential and commercial conveyancing, wills, probate, and employment work.
Owain obtained his BA honours at Aberystwyth University studying Law and Politics, before completing his Legal Practice Course at Chester College of Law. Owain visited Kenya and Uganda in 2005 working alongside African Christian Lawyers in visiting prisons, educating tribes, and lobbying government officials. Today Owain continues to support this charitable cause as well as similar charity in Moldova.
Sarah Robinson – Associate Solicitor, Newtown
Sarah Robinson is a newly qualified Associate Solicitor within the practice, having qualified in February 2008. She spent 4 years with the firm prior to qualification as a Legal Secretary for the Family/ Matrimonial department and before becoming a Trainee Solicitor.Sarah moved to Wales in 1994 and has studied Law in both Dolgellau and then in nearby Aberystwyth University of Wales, alongside raising her young family. Her future goal is to complete a Masters Degree in Environmental Law, also at Aberystwyth University.
Sarah likes to cycle and has competed in a number of cycling events and has also raised money for Cancer Research by completing some 10k running events in the local area.
Sarah currently deals with varying aspects of legal work but predominantly deals with Civil Litigation, Bankruptcy, Power of Attorneys and Property Disputes. She also has some experience representing clients in Court and thoroughly enjoys this aspect of the job.
Cassie Jenkins – Associate Solicitor, Llandrindod Wells
Cassie studied for her joint honours in Law and Sociology (LLB) at Cardiff University and successfully obtained a qualifying Law degree in 2006. Cassie then went on to study in her home town of Aberystwyth and gained a commendation from Aberystwyth University of Wales whilst studying on the Legal Practice Course.Cassie commenced her training with Geraint Jones & Company, Llandrindod Wells Office, in March of 2008 and is now a fully qualified Solicitor. Cassie deals primarily with Lasting Powers of Attorneys, Wills and Probates, property and debt matters. Cassie is also accredited as a Police Station Representative and regularly attends at the Police Station to advise and assist. Cassie is currently working toward attaining her Magistrates Court qualification.
Cassie has lived in Wales all of her life and is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Lorraine Hill - Conveyancing department, Newtown
Lorraine has worked in a legal practice since the early 1980’s and has experience at a secretarial level working for the Principal of the Practice.In recent years her experience and skills have been recognized and she has progressed from a conveyancing assistant to dealing with a considerable case load of all aspects of conveyancing, under the supervision of the Principal.
